NICU MRI Case Study
Example from Cincinnati Children’s: Failed Diaphragm Repair Corrected
-
Prenatal surgery was performed to correct a hernia in the diaphragm of a boy.
-
After birth the baby failed to thrive. Despite clear lungs, oxygen levels remained too low. X-ray and Ultrasound were normal.
-
MR revealed that the diaphragm was tethered, causing a substantial amount of air to be pushed between the lungs.
-
Life saving surgery to repair the diaphragm was successful.
